Springstone is a very hard type of serpentine with high iron content and a fine texture. It creates no cleavages, is hard and firm and is offering good resistance to the sculptor. Springstone has a rich outer layer of reddish brown oxidised rock. Springstone is a beautiful dark stone and it polishes to a high shine because of its density. Springstone are often a source of inspiration to the artists. There are a few mines where this stone is found, but Guruve, in the north of Zimbabwe, is where Springstone is mined.
